Emily Broad Leib is a Clinical Professor of Law and Faculty Director of the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation. She is also the Founder and Director of the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic, the first law school clinic in the U.S. devoted to providing legal and policy guidance on food system issues. Broad Leib focuses her scholarship, teaching, and practice on finding solutions to some of the biggest health, economic, and environmental issues facing our food system. Working directly with clients such as NGOs, governmental bodies, and community groups, Broad Leib champions reduction in food waste, improvements to diet quality and food safety, increased food access and food is medicine interventions, and sustainability in food production. Her scholarly work has been published in the California Law Review, Wisconsin Law Review, the Harvard Law & Policy Review, the Food & Drug Law Journal, the Journal of Food Law & Policy, Food Security, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the New England Journal of Medicine, among others.
Broad Leib was a founder of the Academy of Food Law and Policy, and from 2016-2019, served as Founding Co-Chair of the Academy’s Board of Trustees. She is also the faculty supervisor for the Harvard Mississippi Delta Project and Harvard Food Law Society. She has been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, The Guardian, TIME, Politico, and the Washington Post. She has appeared on CBS This Morning, CNN, The Today Show, and MSNBC. Broad Leib received her B.A. from Columbia University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude.
