Elaine W. Yu, MD, MMSc is an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is a clinical researcher and board-certified endocrinologist in the Endocrine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and is the Director of the MGH Bone Density Center. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Harvard University, Dr. Yu finished medical school and residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the MGH, and received a Masters in Clinical and Translational Research from the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Yu’s clinical and research interests are in the intersection of osteoporosis and obesity/metabolic diseases. She has received funding from NIH, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and investigator-initiated industry-funded grants. She currently serves as the Principal Investigator of several studies characterizing the long-term negative effects of bariatric surgery and diabetes on skeletal outcomes.
