On July 10-11, 2013, a panel of world-renowned physicians and researchers came together to discuss the rapid rise of metabolic syndrome in the developed and developing world. The first session discussed the importance and implications of metabolic syndrome. Session two focused on the early mechanisms of the disease including transgenerational obesity and the role of inflammation. Session three compared and contrasted dietary patterns in various developing countries, specifically looking at types of dietary carbohydrates and their impact on obesity and diabetic risk factors. The symposium is aimed to provide top researchers, opinion leaders, and educators with cutting edge science needed to understand emerging research around metabolic syndrome.
